Solo Leveling is Overrated / Overhyped. 🤮🤮
First of all, I understand that Solo Leveling has many fans and they are completely entitled to enjoy their series. It has good art, is a fun power fantasy for many, and quality is subjective.
I am fully aware that I'm gonna get an otherworldly amount of hate for posting this, but I've had enough of it. Solo Levelling is one of the most overrated things, heck. Everyone in the fanbase suck it off for being "the greatest manhwa out there" but then fail to actually explain something genuinely well written in it.
starters - the story is extremely plain and boring, and it just feels like some rushed secondary story made purely to cover why the mc is op. the main character is op like most other manhwa mc's out there, and it all happens with nearly no development whatsoever. oh sure he trained for a handful of panels, but that's easy to write in, that isn't development. the character's personality changes drastically in such short time for almost no reason, and every other character in the story has no development at all and all feel like ****** undeveloped video game npcs. what happened to characters actually having a personality. what happened to authors actually putting in time and effort to create a compelling and enjoyable character.
The fights in solo leveling are constantly deemed its redeeming quality. Everyone agrees that character developments, plot are pretty mediocre but that the "hype" and "fights" are what people are drawn to. I swear, people are gaslighting me into thinking the fights in it are actually good.
Literally every fight pans out and ends the same way.
Overconfident jackass (human or monarch or monster or whatever) shows up-> Gets Jinwoo annoyed -> Jinwoo whips out overpowered bullshit -> Jinwoo wins. And this basically just repeats itself with gradually "stronger" enemies that are always still five steps behind Jinwoo until the very end of the story.
Thomas Andre? Hyped up for tens of chapters, gets *** kicked, useless against Monarchs. Nation Level hunters? Useless, offscreened. The entirety of Korea's hunters? Zero character development, sidelined, and also completely useless. The only relevant one is just a generic love interest who is also useless.
i went out of my way to read the novel to see if that was any better, and I've wasted my life doing that. the novel and manhwa are both ****. the good art is the only good thing going for it, and if you actually had a common sense you'd know art doesn't make a manga or manhwa good.
you can argue all you want, but id love to see you try and state 5+ things in SL that is actually well written that you can actually back up. go on. if its so good, that will be simple. idc if people enjoy it, i enjoyed it, but it was still not worth the hype, and if you enjoy it, that's fine, but claiming its the best and without anything to support that, that's too far.
Read all of it 👺👺.
