❤️ GINTAMA: A MASTERPEICE SHOUNEN ❤️
(Its my opinion fully) let's start by talking about Gintama's core: the comedy.
Now, as I said before, the main reason I started Gintama was that I was promised a funny comedy and it delivered so much more.
Gintama's comedy for me was okay at the beginning and started improving after episode 30 making me go from light chuckles to gasping for air from the laughter.
Although Gintama is hilarious it still falls flat sometimes, especially in the early episodes since they make a lot of references/parodies to Japanese culture which makes the episode fall flat; a few episodes, are for example the mahjong one or the one where Otae & Co. go to some cooking class and spend the entire episode talking about some Japanese band.
But Gintama is not all about comedy, it also has some serious arcs which took me by surprise!
When **** gets real in Gintama it becomes a different show.
It's a comedy anime. Yeah, we know this. It's also slice of life, but just like life it's both funny and sad, that's probably what makes it so great. However, I would like to talk more about sad parts. It's set in post war world, and many of the characters grew up during the war, fought in it or experienced it in some way. Shinpachi and Otae lost their parrents and inherited dojo, which is set to fail in the society where samurais can't use their swords anymore. Country is controled by amanto, shogun is just a puppet of bakufu, shinsengumi are treated as laughing stock. Gin's childhood friends are wanted terorists. In this setting Gin, whose spirit was mostly broken due to the trauma which he went through during the war, just keeps living to see another day. Gintama is really about this. About living, about surviving in this world.
NOW LETS TAKE A TURN TO THE PLOT / SERIOUS ARCS ( spoiler alert)
And then suddenly it hits. Suddenly the troll face goes and you’ll wonder why there are tears down your face after you’ve watched the Mitsuba arc. You’ll sit trembling with excitement throughout the Shinsengumi Crisis arc, gasping in awe at the power of the Yato throughout the Yoshiwara in Flames arc. You’ll marvel at their camaraderie in the Four Devas Arc, and that’s when you realise you’ve grown attached to them. The gorilla, the ******, the glasses, the China girl, the anpan freak, the mayonnaise addict and the silver haired samurai who eats far too much sugar. They’ve wormed their way into your heart and you’ve grown to recognise their jokes and their behaviour. In those arcs they flesh themselves out to become true people, and in them lies the beauty of Sorachi’s character developments. Then comes shogun assassination, farewell shinsengumi, rakuyou battle , silver soul , courtesan of a nation arc in these arcs the whole plot of gintama you have been watching comes altogether and you will experience one of the best arcs in all of shounen . IN TOTAL GINTAMA IS 10/10 ANIME WHICH YOU SHOULD EXPERIENCE IT ONCE FOR SURE I CANT DESCRIBE ITS GREATNESS IN THESE WORDS ALSO❤️❤️
